  • Video Attempt

So I'm going to try and add my first Xanga video, coinciding with my first youtube attempt.  If this works, you'll see our final rehearsal for Counter Melody, a Plays-in-Progress staged reading at Rockhurst University.  It's very boring, and next to nothing happens...save for a very entertaining head bobble from Kevin Reynolds.  Enjoy.

  • On a bathroom sink basin

Do you wait for the water to heat when washing your hands?
Do you care if I don't?
Will you wait in line for tickets to Counting Crows?
Will you mind if I won't?

Have you worried late at night for the sake of the world?
Have you worried that I didn't?
How can you tell anything as perfect as us?
How can you tell me anything isn't?

    Telling the Truth

It has been increasingly important to me lately to consider how someone should tell the truth.  Yes, the first step is gathering the courage/nerve/motivation to tell the truth to someone at all.  It's hard to tell truth to power, but it's far worse to tell the truth to someone when you know it will crush them.  So I've embraced the advice I recently heard to "tell the truth with love."  It seems straightforward enough, but it's more important than you might think at first.

Here's the important distinction:  Take the example of a woman I knew who worked at the church in which I grew up.  She was so burned out on people trying to take advantage of her and people not listening that she started to tell the truth vehemently and with scary, blunt coldness.  It's much more helpful to tell the truth in a way which can make a difference rather than in a way which will divide or harm without reason.  That's the random thought running through my head today.  Peace.
